With these added car detailing tips that you can do yourself, you can get your automobile looking brand new.
Rinse Before Washing
You’ll just grind the surface dust and road grit into your paint finish if you wash your dry paint with soapy water. To remove as much dust and grime as possible, professional detailers often start with a clear water rinse.
Replace Your Carpet
You’ve purchased a “previously owned” automobile for a fantastic price, but the carpeting in the car is a total disaster. It’s too far gone for stain removers—new carpeting is your best option. You may buy preformed carpet and install it yourself in most situations for around $200 and take just a few hours to do so.
Remove Those Annoying Stickers
With a huge number of national and state park stickers, you may recall wonderful experiences, but they can also be a safety hazard as they pile up. If you can work your way underneath a corner and carefully pull them free at a 90-degree angle, the high-quality stickers will come off without leaving too much residue behind. Others might leave a gummy residue or need more attention. Using an old towel to cover your dashboard, dab on Goo Gone for about 20 seconds before scraping and cleaning it away.
Use Synthetic Wax to Mirror Finish
Some people prefer carnauba wax. It leaves a rich, warm glow. But we like the new synthetic polymer waxes (also known as paint sealants) from Meguiar’s, such as Ultimate Liquid Wax, which produce a wet-gloss appearance. It is more expensive than other synthetics, but it does not leave a white film on plastic or trim—a significant benefit. Plus, it’s really easy to apply. Apply the wax to the foam applicator and massage it into the finish with a circular motion. Then wipe off any haze using a microfiber towel. Swap in another clean towel as soon as the first one is full for one of our clever automobile techniques.
Remove the Garbage Behind the Seats
You’ll be amazed at what you find behind the seats. We discovered a misplaced phone, several pens and pencils to stock a small office, and enough change for several vending machine lunches among other things. Vacuum the seats and remove the mats. Brush off and vacuum the interior door pockets (another potential source of buried treasure).
Replace Wiper Blades
It’s simple to determine when it’s time to replace your blades. Simply press the washer button and see if your blades clean themselves. If they streak, they’re done for. For your automobile detailing job, choose a name brand rather than an economy model. They are more expensive than economy blades, but their superior quality rubber wipes cleaner offers greater UV protection and lasts longer.
Use Synthetic Wax
Paste waxes have a beautiful old-fashioned appearance on automobiles. They don’t give the same “wet look” as modern synthetic wax, and they last far less when detailing automobiles. When automobile dealers offer paint sealant, they’re really just applying a high-quality synthetic wax, which you can do yourself for a fraction of the cost.
Finish With the Glass
If you cleaned the inside of your windows before cleaning the dash and applying vinyl protectant, all you have to do now is clean them again. That’s why cleaners save glass cleaning for last. Cleaning the windows at this stage removes any over-spray from the window washing and leaves your windows sparkling clean.
