Death, taxes, and getting a ding in your car or truck are the only certainties in life. Even if you’re as cautious as possible, runaway shopping carts, incorrectly thrown footballs, out-of-nowhere light posts, and other real-life annoyances can’t always be anticipated.
However, the next thing on your mind is undoubtedly how to remove it. Sure, you may take it to a body shop or local mechanic for repair, but their pricing estimates can be astronomical, especially if they need to sand down the paint first or utilize body filler. $200 for that little dent? I don’t believe so.
Instead, save yourself some money and do it yourself. You don’t need to be a gearhead to remove a small dent or ding from your car at home without harming your paint.
There are a few different methods for getting rid of dents and scratches, but not all of them will work on your particular automobile; depending on where the dent is located and what your body panel, hood, or bumper is composed of (aluminium, carbon fibre, plastic, fibreglass, steel, etc.). Aluminium has poor memory qualities in comparison to steel; therefore, paintless dent removal is considerably more difficult.
Use a Plunger
You can use a plunger to unclog a sink or remove dents out of your car, and it’s just as effective. Simply spray some water on the plunger and the dent, then push and pull until they come apart. For sinks, use a cup plunger (not a flange one for toilets); for toilets, utilize the same type of plunging mechanism.
Use Boiling Water
It is incredibly simple to get a dent while reversing into an item. As a result, even if you try to remove the bumper, it might be difficult to push out the dent because of how rigid the plastic is. To solve this problem, boil some water in a saucepan and pour it over the damage.
When the water is hot, reach around the bumper and try to pop the dent back in. The plastic should be more flexible as a result of the heat of the water, making it easier to return to position.
Since the heat won’t remain for long, you’ll have to work fast. If the dent doesn’t entirely disappear after repeat applications of boiling water, continue to throw it on until it has all popped back out.
A Hair Dryer and Compressed Air Are Required
Using a hairdryer and compressed air is one of the most popular ways to remove automobile dents from plastic.
Heat the car dent with a hairdryer at its highest setting for a few seconds, which will expand the plastic of the automobile. When it’s hot enough, use the compressed air can spray the same place upside down. Because cold air will cause the plastic to shrink, the dent will pop out as a result of this temperature difference.
Use Dry Ice
Dry ice is a popular method for removing small dents from your automobile. Hold down a piece of dry ice on the dent and massage it around until you hear the dent pop back into position. Dry ice is primarily used as a cooling agent, but it can also be utilized to remove minor dents.
Pop the dry ice in as many times as necessary, but if the dent isn’t too deep, it should eventually emerge. You may also try heating up the dent with a hairdryer (like the hairdryer and compressed air tip) before adding the dry ice.
Using a Vacuum Cleaner and Pot
Getting a dent out with suction is only one method, but finding the right amount of power in a dent puller is complicated. Why not just make your own? All you need is a pot (or bucket), a vacuum cleaner, and some tape to remove that dint from your automobile.
Take a look at your gadgets and see if they have the power to attract some of your attention. Find something that has a little more potential than what you’re currently doing, and try it out for a few days before committing. It is much easier to be enthusiastic about things when you discover something new or fun; figuring out how to make money on top of that makes it all the better.
Use Screws, Hot Glue, & Wooden Dowels
When you attempt to repair dents yourself, there’s always the danger that you’ll make things worse. Using several wooden dowels, a few screws, and a hot glue gun to try and remove big dents from your vehicle is a safe method of doing so.
Place two nails on each side of the dowel and apply hot glue to the bottom. Place the dowels glue-side down in locations all around the dent, then repeat as needed until the area is adequately coated. Allow them to dry before removing each one until the dent has been removed.
Fill the dent with glue (or balsa wood or silicone). Then, using several different locations throughout the dent, place and pull the same dowels in order to remove most of it. If you’re attempting this approach, be sure you have enough glue and some patience. To detach the glue from the automobile, utilize rubbing alcohol or heat.
Use a Long Metal Rod & Knockdown
When a ding is caused on your automobile, the metal recedes inward and the surrounding edges of the dent elevate upward, forming something like a tiny volcano. As a result, attempting to remove the dent from underneath isn’t the best option.
Use a Specialty Tool
If none of the above methods works, you might want to try a Pops-a-Dent or a suction cup dent removal instrument.
